Grassroots Fundraising
There are lots of ways to spread your message informally yet effectively while raising funds to support your cause (and you might even have a little fun!). Below are some creative ideas to get you started.
Set up a few teeter-totters in a common area, and have people pay a fee to teeter for a block of time.
Make a weekly event of cooking creative pancake recipes or food from a solar oven and ask for donations.
Hold a 24 hour dance-a-thon and take pledges for people to support those dancing. You could also find local dancers who might be willing to donate their time to provide lessons.
Hold board game tournaments where a donation is requested for each game played.
Have people pledge to donate money they would normally use to buy alcohol for one weekend or for a party to your cause. Host a party with fun non-alcoholic activities such as a game of capture the flag or water balloon fights.
Ask for donations to support your cause and say you will shave your head if you reach a certain amount. And be sure to follow through!
Hold a day of relay races where the participants must pay for each race. Offer creative, Fair Trade items as prizes.
Gather up a small ensemble -or go solo- and showcase your singing and instrumental talents on the street. Be sure to leave open a guitar case for donations!
Organize a hula-hoop contest or dodge-ball tournament and charge a fee to participate.
Host a fashion show and collect donations or charge an admission fee.
Host a clothing swap where people pay a small fee to trade the clothes they are tired of.
Hold a class for something you could teach others, such as knitting or cooking, and ask for donations.
