

Mr. Samrat Thong-iam is vice-president of Rice Fund Surin - Organic Agriculture Cooperative, a Fair Trade certified cooperative that sells organic rice domestically in Thailand, as well as in Europe and the United States. Samrat’s cooperative sells their red and white Jasmine rice to the United States through Alter Eco, a 100% Fair Trade company. He was recently elected as village representative in local government and has traveled to Italy to attend Terra Madre, the international slow foods conference. Samrat, along with his wife and two daughters, grows organic Jasmine rice along with numerous other organic fruits and vegetables on his 10 acre farm, He speaks Khmer as his native language.
Mr. Man Samsee has served as a local village headman and is member of the advisory committee for Yasothorn Province's Fair Trade Rice Mill and Cooperative in Thailand. Kutchum, his village, has been a model for self-sufficiency in Thailand, introducing independent local currency in 2000, producing their own herbal medicines, and leading the transition to sustainable agriculture in Thailand. Paw Man, as he is known, grows organic brown and white Jasmine rice, organic sticky rice, and a variety of organic fruits and vegetables on his farm of about 5 acres. The Kutchum Rice Cooperative is currently looking for a trading partner in the United States, but sells their rice in Europe through a Fair Trade partner
