ENGAGE-Affiliated Abroad Program Benefits
ENGAGE works with study abroad programs committed to grassroots education as a means of enriching the study abroad experience for students, study abroad providers, and local partner communities. The ENGAGE-Affiliated Abroad Program is designed to build long-term relationships between ENGAGE, study abroad providers, and local communities. It also serves to link these communities to an international audience.

By becoming an ENGAGE-Affiliated Program, a study abroad program benefits from a host of services:

Outreach — To draw interest and increase participation in ENGAGE-Affiliated Abroad Programs, ENGAGE promotes these programs on its website and in marketing materials, as well as at student conferences and university events..

Global Linkages — ENGAGE works closely with ENGAGE-Affiliated Abroad Programs, helping to link the work of their students, Global Citizen Program participants, and partner communities to other study abroad programs, communities, and international grassroots and non-governmental organizations.

Pre-Departure Preparation — ENGAGE provides pre-departure training for participants in the Global Citizen Program. This includes providing background on the social and environmental justice movement, as well as instruction and advisement on facilitation methods, organizing techniques, cultural sensitivity training, and building social justice campaigns. Study abroad program alumni in the ENGAGE network also make themselves available to prospective students in their regions to answer questions and prepare students for the abroad experience.

Lifelong Connections and Opportunities for Action — ENGAGE creates opportunities for students returning from abroad programs and participants in the Global Citizen Program to bring their experiences home by leading and participating in ENGAGE Campaigns that address issues experienced abroad. ENGAGE also facilitates networking with other ENGAGE members, international and community-based organizations, and study abroad programs.
